1842 "WESSEX" CANCELLATION ON COVER. 1842 (23 July) EL from Totnes to London bearing 1d red-brown 'LB' with 4 margins tied by 2 strikes (against regulations) of the "TOTNES" CIRCULAR TOWN DATESTAMP plus a third strike alongside. Light folds, a stain and repaired corner tear at low left but a rare example of a Town cancellation on a 4- margined 1d on cover. Stamp on piece cat £1100, on cover cat £3000.
