Boris L. Rosing (1869-1933) ― Russian physicist, teacher, author of the first experiments on television, inventor of electronic television. Born on April 23 (may 5) in St. Petersburg. In 1891 he graduated from the physics and mathematics faculty of St. Petersburg University.
Boris L. Rosing was at the origins of television. In may 1911, he conducted the first transmission of images at a distance, using an electronic scanning system (line-by-line transmission) in the transmitting device and an electron-beam tube in the receiving apparatus, for the first time "formulating" the principle of television. During the experiments, the image of the lattice, which consists of four bands, was transmitted. The grille was placed in front of the transmitter lens. It was the world's first television broadcast experiment, as predecessors failed to show the practical application of their system.
In 1920, the scientist created in Ekaterinodar physical and mathematical society and became its Chairman. In 1924, Rosing taught at the St. Petersburg Institute of technology and worked as a senior researcher at the Leningrad experimental electrotechnical laboratory (LEEL) of the VSNH. Rosing had developed a system of electrical signalling used in telephone stations, fire engines and telegraphs, has created a photovoltaic device intended for guiding the blind, photoelectric photometer and the device for recording and playback of sound. In addition, he owns various studies in the field of electrodynamics and photoelectricity, quantum physics.
