The Adriatic Guard was founded on February 19, 1922 . in Split by a few Split intellectuals and patriots. The goal of the organization was to spread awareness about the importance of the Adriatic Sea , the economic, cultural and general progress of the Adriatic . It arose out of the need to oppose the open intention of the Kingdom of Italy to take over the eastern part of the Adriatic . With the Main Board of Split, 1922 . In 1923 , committees were established in Osijek , Skopje and Priština . committees in Ljubljana , Sarajevo , Novi Sad , Dubrovnik , Belgrade , Zagreb and Kragujevac , and in 1924 the regional board in Veliko Bečkerek . According to the Statute from 1927 . year, its main task is to "preserve the country's national features and maritime traditions, spread public awareness of the importance of the Adriatic Sea, improve its use and develop the Adriatic orientation". She directed her activities towards the younger generation. Many regional committees from the continental parts of the Kingdom built children's homes in places on the coast of the Adriatic Sea in order to enable children and young people to visit the sea for the first time and fall in love with it. It was built in 1933 with voluntary contributions . school ship Jadran in 2010 and dedicated it to the navy.
The Adriatic Guard was a mass organization, which at the end of the thirties had around 180,000 members in 20 regional committees throughout the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. It collaborated with other national organizations, such as the falconry movement and scouts. The organization had a developed publishing activity, such as brochures, leaflets, almanacs and calendars. The official gazette of the Adriatic Guard has been published since 1923 until 1941 under the name of the Adriatic Guard in Split. It published special works in the Maritime Library edition .
