- Jean Graton est né en France, à Nantes, le 10 août 1923. Il publie son premier dessin à l'âge de 8 ans dans Le Soir. Mais Graton passe par plusieurs métiers avant de commencer dans la BD. Il sera ainsi dessinateur industriel, ajusteur et dessinateur publicitaire et il travaillera dans une agence de presse. Entre 1952 et 1954, il débute dans le 9e Art avec quelques Belles Histoires de l'Oncle Paul dans le magazine Spirou. Il publie ensuite sa première histoire brève, "La Première Ronde" dans le journal Tintin en 1953. Il réalise également toute une série de récits complets se déroulant dans le milieu sportif et dont quelques-uns seront même repris dans l'ouvrage intitulé "Ca c'est du sport !" paru au Lombard en 1957. Parallèlement, il lui arrive de collaborer, de temps en temps, au magazine Line. En 1957, Graton crée le célèbre et sympathique pilote automobile "Michel Vaillant". Celui-ci ne vivra d'abord que quelques courts récits avant de faire l'objet, en 1959, d'un premier album complet "Le Grand Défi". Cette série, dont les 30 premiers titres furent publiés au Lombard, fait partie des classiques de la bande dessinée franco-belge. En 1982, Graton crée sa propre maison d'édition où il poursuit la publication de ses bandes dessinées. Graton a également créé "Les Labourdet", en collaboration avec son épouse, une série parue dans le magazine Chez Nous en 1967 et 1970 et qui a été éditée en trois albums au Lombard. Il donne aussi naissance à "Julie Wood", une championne de moto. Graton a réuni ses trois héros, Michel Vaillant, Julie Wood et Steve Warson dans l'épisode "Paris-Dakar" de la série "Michel Vaillant". Décès : le 21/01/2021.
