- Baru débute en 1982 dans Pilote, avec des récits complets, et publie deux ans plus tard, "Quéquettes Blues", récit émouvant et partiellement autobiographique de la vie quotidienne des enfants issus de la classe ouvrière française, qui lui vaut l'Alfred 1985 du meilleur premier album à Angoulême et le révèle au grand public. Cet album contient en germe toute l'oeuvre à venir de Baru. En 1985, Dargaud publie "La Piscine de Micheville", suivi des deuxième et troisième volumes de "Quéquette Blues". En 1985 et 1987 paraissent, chez Futuropolis, "La Communion du Mino" et "Vive la classe". Il réalise alors, pour L'Écho des Savanes, "Cours camarade", puis "Le Chemin de l'Amérique" (Alph'Art du meilleur album 1991 à Angoulême, coécrit avec Jean-Marc Thévenet), publiés en 1988 et 1990 par Albin Michel. C'est en avril 1995 qu'il publie "L'Autoroute du soleil" chez Kodansha, puis chez Casterman en septembre. Cet album se verra couronné du Prix des libraires spécialisés et de l'Alph'Art du meilleur album 1996 au festival d'Angoulême. Derniers albums publiés : "Sur la route encore" (janvier 1997), "Bonne Année" (septembre 1998) et "Les Années Spoutnik" (quatre albums parus) chez Casterman toujours. Avec "L'Enragé", il fait une entrée fracassante dans la collection "Aire Libre". Le festival BD Boum a récompensé Baru (L'Enragé dans la collection Aire Libre) pour l'ensemble de son oeuvre en lui attribuant le Grand Boum 2006.
